Summary:

Periodic structures, such as EBG structures and metamaterials, have renewed applications in microwave engineering. In this work, spatially-modulated periodic structures show a multiband behavior that depends on the amplitude or position modulation function. Applying the concept to Left-Right Hand corrugated rectangular waveguides, creates new LH bands. Also, terminations of microwave filters are designed based on the Bloch impedance calculations. The spatial modulation is a step to bandgap engineering of periodic structures.
